About this Position

We are looking for a strong, experienced marketing professional to lead marketing for Riverbed Technology in our Greater China region. The Regional Marketing leader is expected to bring in-depth marketing knowledge, a business background and deep understanding of the trends and issues in the IT sector in mainland China, Hong Kong & Taiwan. The role will be tasked to develop and execute field and channel marketing activities to support and drive business growth in conjunction with the regional leadership.


The role will report to the Vice President, Marketing Asia Pacific & Japan, however the marketing leader is expected to be a strong business partner to the Regional Vice President, Greater China.


The primary focus of the marketing leader is to drive demand and build awareness within the region, working closely with the sales and channel teams to execute programmes in the field. This includes driving installed base programmes as well as leveraging all aspects of the marketing mix across digital, online, social and external customer and industry interactions. The successful candidate will have a proven track record and specifically be well grounded in using Salesforce or Marketo, in building measurable demand generation programmes and build awareness in the market.


Key responsibilities for this position include:

Provide overall marketing leadership and support to the Greater China region, the sales and channel teams, and other functions within the region.


  • Field Marketing
    • Plan, Develop and Execute integrated marketing campaigns, including corporate campaigns / Channel / direct-to-customer, to support, influence and lead sales efforts in the region
    • Drive execution of regional programs and campaigns to deliver measurable marketing sourced pipeline and bookings
    • Own lead management, analysis and reporting for Greater China
    • Leverage global campaigns/ launches and localize to meet Greater China requirements
    • Work closely with digital marketing to build the top of funnel requirements for long-term pipeline build
    • Ensure the appropriate allocation and management of the Greater China Field Marketing Budget to achieve Demand Generation, Awareness and Enablement targets


  • Channel Marketing
    • Ensure that the region’s field and channel marketing plans and execution are tightly integrated with mutually inclusive goals
    • Execute marketing activities with channel partners to create awareness and build pipeline. This should be done in conjunction with the RSMs, CSM, RD and aligned with the channel strategies and plans
    • Provide joint marketing campaign support, co-ordination and tracking of results
    • Support execution for local channel events, seminars etc
    • Support the execution of local communications, for example localization of assets
    • Ensure the appropriate allocation and management of the Greater China Marketing Development Fund budget


  • Awareness, Communications & Customer Programs
    • Develop and manage customer case studies and references
    • Generate local PR, identify trends and hot topics and drive awareness with the support of APJ Corporate Communications Director
    • Localise & maintain marketing assets & sales collateral for Greater China website


Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience working closely with a sales organization (direct and channel) to deliver demonstrable results
  • Proven ability to ‘peer-influence’ outside of own organisation
  • Track record of driving and delivering tangible demand generation results
  • Experience in digital marketing / digital demand-generation a significant plus
  • Ability to develop plans, execute, initiate and follow-through
  • Solid reporting and budget management experience
  • Experience liaising with local and corporate marketing organizations
  • Communications experience an advantage – public relations, writing newsletters and case studies
  • Fluent in English & Mandarin, both written and spoken; other regional language a great advantage
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience with using CRM systems (such as essential
  • Flexibility to travel within the region; travel up to 30% is a requirement


Education / Requirements:


  • 10+ years marketing experience in a high technology company, with a minimum of 5 years developing and executing joint, strategic marketing plans with complex, high-value routes-to-market. 
  • Extensive experience across all aspects of marketing including product marketing, outbound marketing, marketing strategy and content and creative development.
  • Strong leadership skills with a goal and outcomes driven mindset.
  • Ability to work within a geographically diverse, complex virtual team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Relationships with national and regional / global channel partner organizations as well as networking, storage and enterprise platform solution providers needed
  • Self-starter, leads and facilitates management of details needed to accomplish tasks; deals with complex situations including simultaneous management of several programs and initiatives
  • Business or Technical Undergraduate Degree; MBA degree is a plus
